Mortgage Rates Hold Near 14-Month Lows

Rates for home loans were little changed near recent lows as investors struggled to make sense of competing economic narratives, offering some breathing room to house hunters.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.08% during the April 4 week, mortgage guarantor Freddie Mac reported Thursday. That was up two basis points, and marked only the third time this year that the popular mortgage product has charted a weekly rise. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.56%, down one basis point. The 5-year Treasury-indexed 3.66%, down from 3.75%.

Those rates don’t include fees associated with obtaining mortgage loans.
